Itinerary Description By Day

Day 1: Machame Gate(1640 m) To Machame Camp(2835 m)

  • Drive from Moshi to Machame gate for registration processes
  • Start hiking through maize and coffee plantations leading into the montanne forest
  • The path finally leads to Machame camp
  • Dinner and sleep at the camp

Day 2: Machame Camp(2835 m)To Shira Camp(3850 m)

  • Climb from the montanne forest into the moorland zone
  • The path displays such spectacular views of Kibo and Mawenzi (Kilimanjaro’s peaks)
  • Climb up the Shira plateau where you will break for lunch
  • The trail leads to Shira camp to arrive in the evening
  • Dinner and sleep at the camp

Day 3: Shira Camp (3850 m) to Lava Tower (4600 m) Barranco Camp (3900 m)

  • Hike from the Shira plateau to climb the Lava tower. The process is meant for acclimatization allowing your body getting used to high altitude
  • Rest at the tower and get time for lunch
  • Proceed by descending down the tower to finally arrive at Barranco camp
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camp

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3900 m) to Karanga Camp (3960 m) To Barafu Camp(4680 m)

  • Climb up the great “Barranco wall” while approaching the Karanga valley
  • Arrive at Karanga camp by mid-day for lunch break and rest
  • Proceed with the walk to finally arrive at Barafu camp in the late afternoon
  • Take the rest of the day off resting and gaining energy for the next day
  • Its advised to sleep very early by 7:00 pm

Day 5: Ascend To The Summit at Uhuru Peak (5895m)

  • Wake up by 11:30 for a hot cup of coffee and putting on climbing gears
  • Start ascending by midnight into the glacial zone to reach Stella Point (5735m) around sunrise
  • Take another 1 hour round trip to finally reach Uhuru peak (5895m), the roof of Africa
  • Take time at the summit taking photos while feeling accomplished
  • Proceed with descending down the mountain to reach Mweka hut(3100m) after 11- 14 hours of walking
  • Dinner and sleep at the camp

Day 6: Mweka Camp (3100 m) to Mweka Gate (1640 m)

  • Hike through the montanne forest to reach Mweka gate
  • Upon arrival, get a chance to show appreciation to the team (guides, porters and cookers) by tipping them
  • Get awarded with certificates whereby golden certificates are given to hikers who reached Uhuru peak and green certificates for Stella point hikers
  • Drive back to Moshi/Arusha for hot showers and much celebrations
